We are truly thrilled to announce the visit of GWR Railcar No.W22 to the East Somerset Railway for our Spring Gala over the weekend of 14/15 March. To date, no GWR Railcars have operated outside of the Didcot Railway Centre in the 21st Century making this a truly special occasion.
Cranmore saw many of these vehicles during their operational lives with the GWR and BR meaning this really is recreating Strawberry Line services of the Mid-20th Century.
These vehicles, first built for GWR constructed in the 1930s, were the forerunners of the modern Diesel Multiple Units that operate many of the UKs commuter services today.
Number W22 appears alongside GWR Pannier Tank 7754, GWR Large Prairie 4110, and GWR 45xx 4555.
