The East Somerset Railway
50th Anniversary Gala
Unfortunately, we have been advised by the 6880 Betton Grange Society that contractors working on the locomotive will not be able to complete the work in time for our 50th Anniversary Steam Gala on 16/17 March.
However, we are tremendously grateful to the Didcot Railway Centre for allowing us the hire of new build GWR Saint, 2999 ‘Lady of Legend’ which will stand in for the Grange at the event.
Completed in 2019, the Saint is a faithful recreation of Great Western Edwardian elegance with the first member of the class introduced in 1902. Saints were a common sight on GWR express services up until the 1950’s with the last being withdrawn in 1953.
2999 is set to be the first of its class to ever traverse the ESR and will appear alongside home-fleet locos GWR Large Prairie 4110, LMS Ivatt 2MT 46447 and Andrew Barclay 0-4-0ST 1719 ‘Lady Nan’.
2999’s visit is courtesy of the Didcot Railway Centre.
All locomotives appear subject to availability.
