The nearest railway station is Frome, which is 6 miles away and if you require an accessible taxi you can book this in advance, Arrow taxis 01373 470110.

The nearest bus stop is 500m from our main entrance (please ask the driver for the stop in the village of Cranmore outside The Strode Arms). All buses are accessible and can accommodate one wheelchair. Cranmore only has a bus service Monday - Friday.

The road outside the attraction is a country lane.

Assistance Dogs

Assistance dogs are allowed to accompany their owner in all areas of the site including the Whistlestop Café and Dining Carriages.

Arrival and Car Parking

We have a large car park on site with 6 Blue Badge parking spaces, 50m from the station entrance.

There is a large paved patio, with a slight slope, to access the station entrance.

Cranmore Railway Station is based on two floors. From the patio level there are 16 stone steps to the platform and Ticket Office.

Flat access to the platform and Ticket Office can be accessed by car via the lane to the right of our main car park entrance. This is signed no entry but please ignore this and follow the lane to the old station buildings. You will find a couple of Disabled parking spaces here and a drop off/pick up point at platform level 50m from the Ticket Office.

The main station entrance door is 900mm wide.

The Whistlestop Café and Toilets are accessible from the bottom of the steps at patio/car park level. There is an additional toilet at platform level.

Main Entrance, Ticket Office and Station Shop

The main station entrance and Ticket Office are situated on the platform, accessed via 16 stone steps from the car park level.

The Ticket Office and Station Shop has flat access throughout.

There is a bench seat in the Ticket Office and just outside on the platform.

The floor surface is tile and carpet.

The area is evenly and well lit with overhead lighting.

The Ticket Office booth has glass screens to aid lip reading and visitors with a visual impairment.

Disabled Adults and Carers are entitled to the Concession Ticket (£12). 

If you have several wheelchair users, please let us know (telephone 01749 880417, Tuesday – Friday 10.30am – 3.30pm, press option 3) the date and trains you intend to travel on, as we need to know how many wheelchair users will be aboard.

Train Ride

Due to the age of our heritage carriages and their fixed seating we are unable to seat wheelchairs and mobility scooters in the main carriages. We have an adapted carriage for mobility impaired visitors which is accessed via a ramp with seating areas for carers.

Assistance to board the train is happily given by the Guard on duty.

Access to the main carriages and seating are through a narrow doorway with 2 narrow steps.

The trip is a return journey and takes approximately 40 minutes.

Engine Shed and Workshop

Our Engine Shed and Workshop is situated approximately 500m from Cranmore Station.

Access is via paved/tarmac/uneven paths and surfaces, with rails to cross, so may be unsuitable for wheelchairs and mobility scooters.

There are no public toilets at this point.

Museum

Our small museum is situated on the platform in the old station building. There is flat access but limited space inside around the display cases.

All exhibits are in glass cases.

Signal Box

Our Signal Box is open on specific days only (March – October).

It is situated across the track from the station platform.

Access is via a slope at the end of the platform, a step onto the tracks, which is very uneven, and over the rails to a step the other side (not suitable for wheelchairs or mobility scooters).

Please always check with a member of staff if it is ok to cross.

There are 12 narrow and open steps to the Signal Box viewing area.

Miniature Railway

Our Miniature Railway is open on specific days only (March - October).

It is situated behind the Signal Box.

Access is via a slope at the end of the platform, a step onto the tracks, which is very uneven, and over the rails to a step the other side (not suitable for wheelchairs or mobility scooters).

Please always check with a member of staff if it is ok to cross.

The path around the Signal Box to the Miniature Railway is via grass and therefore uneven.

Toilets

Toilets for Ladies, Gentlemen, the Disabled and Baby Change are located on the ground floor of the main station building with 16 stone steps from platform level and flat access from the car park and café. There is a small step into the foyer with a ramp if needed (please ask a member of staff if you need help).

The Disabled and Baby Change toilet is a unisex and accessible toilet with nappy change facility.

The door is light and easy to open, 900mm wide.

The toilet height is 400mm.

There are vertical rails either side of both basin and toilet.

There is a horizontal rail on the side wall adjacent to the toilet.

The toilet is well lit with overhead lighting.

The flooring is tiled.

There is a lever tap on the sink.
