Kick Off The Season - International Women's Day!

Welcome back to East Somerset Railway for a fun, family day out as we kick off our 2025 season with Wells City Ladies football team.  

Come and meet the team and talk to the players.

Wells City Ladies Football Club will be opening a special day at the East Somerset Railway when we celebrate Women in Engineering and Sport on International Women's Day at Cranmore on 8th March at 10.45am.  Women of all ages are encouraged to come and meet the team, have a ‘kick around’ if they wish before heading to the Workshops to try out some exciting engineering skills. Welding, grinding, metal fabrication and lathe work are just some of the activities on offer. 

William Carr, ESR Trustee, commented: ‘ We want to encourage women of all ages to participate in a day of sport and engineering, whether you are a teenager with a dream job in mind or someone who just wants to have a go at a different activity, we’d love to see you on the 8th’.

Over 100 volunteers run the East Somerset Railway with a large number giving their time to drive, maintain and restore steam locomotives. This unique setting provides the opportunity for people of all ages and genders to learn sought-after engineering skills and has led to some of our young volunteers subsequently gaining employment in engineering trades, Network Rail and steam railways.
