tHE PERFECT EXPERIENCE FOR THOSE PASSIONATE ABOUT STEAM ENGINES!
Our Driver Taster Session lasts one and a half hours and you will accompany the crew on the engine footplate as they take a passenger train over our line. After receiving their expert guidance you will then take a turn at driving the steam engine only, one way over the line (approximately two and a half miles of driving).
To add to your Driver Taster Session you will receive two complimentary day rover vouchers for family and friends to use on the day of your footplate course (your family and friends need to show their vouchers at the Ticket Office and they will be exchanged for day rover tickets).
On completion of your Driver Taster Session you will be presented with a certificate of your achievement.

Driver Taster Sessions happen on specific days during our running season and are limited to 1 participant per session.
Driver Taster Session Times
- 10.45am-12.15pm
- 12.15pm-1.45pm
- 3.15pm-4.45pm
(Finish times are approximate)
*Please Note* Driving a steam loco is physically demanding and can be hard work. You will need to be at least 16 years of age, in good health and reasonably fit as you will be climbing up and down from the footplate, as well as operating heavy controls.

Due to the complexity of the organisation involved in operating the Driver Taster Sessions the following conditions apply.
Gift Vouchers
We are unable to offer a general gift voucher for the Driver Taster Session. If you would like to buy a gift but are unsure of the specific date you require, please book one that would be most appropriate for the person taking the experience. If the date needs to be changed, then contact the office to do so, as soon as you have given the gift.
Alterations
We are unable to accept alterations within 21 days of booked date. If an alteration to the booked date is necessary prior to 21 days an administration fee of £40 will be required.
