Children love visiting the East Somerset Railway

Children love steam trains - from Thomas the Tank Engine to the Hogwarts Express - they capture the imagination and can also fire up their interest in history and engineering.  We love to see the future generation of steam lovers here at ESR and we try and make their visits as enjoyable as we can. Although we are not running any specific children's events at the moment due to the coronavirus restrictions, there is plenty here to keep them amused. Keep an eye on the website, Facebook and Instagram for details of our children's character events including Peppa Pig and The Gruffalo and, of course,  Santa's visit in December .

Young Volunteers

We have a group of fabulous young volunteers who help us in many different ways. If you scroll through the photos below, you can see  Toby and Anwen busy making a new sign for Mendip Vale as the old one has broken.  Follow their progress:

All cut to size and first coats of paint on!

Second coat of paint on 3 sides of the sign and posts done (need to wait until it's dry before turning over and second coating side 4). Post "hats" made, and the fixing brackets (from the old sign) reclaimed, and cleaned up!

Brackets and post hats painted, and lettering being done on the new sign, unfortunately it looks like another coat of paint will be required around the letters, but we are getting there! Hopefully it will be ready for installation on 2nd September.

***UPDATE Sept 1st *** sign now finished and ready to install tomorrow!

*** Sept 2nd........It's up! ***

We will put it up in Mendip Vale  at the Cranmore end of the platform and then take the old one away and repair it, and then return it to the far end of the platform.

Also if time permits we might make a third sign for the middle of the platform!
