To make your visit extra special, why not treat someone to a Cake & Rail Experience.
On arrival at the Ticket Office you will exchange your voucher for Day Rover Tickets, which entitles you to ride one or all of the trains on the day (our standard timetable is four trains per running day and each round trip takes approximately 40 minutes), plus we are one of very few steam railways where you are more than welcome to look around our Engine Shed and Workshop, a must for any steam buff!
Before, or after soaking up the nostalgia of the steam train ride you can enjoy a complimentary hot drink and slice of delicious cake in our Whistlestop Café. If you would like to upgrade to a hot lunch, you are more than welcome to do this for an additional charge payable on the day (please ask in the Ticket Office when you arrive).
A rare treat also included in your experience is a visit onto the Footplate of the steam locomotive running on the day you visit. The crew will be pleased to see you and will happily chat to you about the engine and their work. With beautifully crafted dials, levers and pipework the Footplate is a fascinating place for everyone and always makes a great photo opportunity!Buy Gift Voucher
Please note: The Cake & Rail Experience is very popular with our visitors, so you are able to book to help avoid queues and ensure everyone has the chance to visit the footplate. We recommend your visit to be just after the train has returned to Cranmore, or 15 minutes before the next train is due to depart, or alternatively, at Mendip Vale before train returns to Cranmore. The best time of day is likely to be 2.45pm-3.15pm, or 4.15pm but please check with the driver as other times are possible. At any time you can still ask the driver if you may come up on the footplate but visits are subject to operational constraints and at all times are at the discretion of the driver.
2020 dates which can be booked in advance: T.B.C.
Please e-mail [email protected] or call 01749 880417 (Tuesday-Friday 10.30am-3.30pm, press option 3) to book a date but timing needs to be arranged with the driver on the day as explained above.
For safety reasons the Footplate visit is subject to operational availability and also requires the drivers permission. Every effort will be made to accommodate Footplate visits but special events or unforeseen circumstances may create restricted visits on certain days.
