21/22 March 2020
This year we will have five engines in steam! Our resident locos, Ivatt 46447, 5637 and 'Lady Nan' ('Driver for a Tenner'), plus the recently restored 5239 Goliath and newcomer Small Prairie 4555 making its first appearance at the ESR at the start of a 2-year loan from the Dartmouth Steam Railway.
We will be running seven services of passenger trains, freight, brake vans and tankers to create the complete steam atmosphere.
Throughout this weekend we showcase our rolling stock, to give you a vision of life before modern technology. Ride in the brake van, watch the shunting, or sit in comfort in a vintage carriage all day if you like! Our day rover ticket allows you access to all this, as well as visiting our Engine Shed and Workshop to see the restoration and maintenance work carried out by our volunteers. Talk to our staff and see how passionate we are about our trains and the bygone era of steam.
Next to the Engine Shed you can also have a Driver for a Tenner experience driving Lady Nan up and down the sidings.
The Miniature Railway will be operating alongside the main line for a £1 fare (please note the Miniature Railway will not run in poor weather conditions). Here you can enjoy a rest in our picnic area, which is adjacent to the main line.
The Whistlestop Cafe will be serving delicious homemade hot and cold food, cakes and refreshments all day.
Brake van trips on the Goods trains are on a first come, first served basis and are included in the price of your ticket. Standard ticket prices apply.
