ESR Heritage Open Day: Discover the Fascinating World of British Rail Travel Throughout Time

Come along and experience the very best of what we have to offer including the following...

Coaling & Watering of the Locomotive: see how a locomotive is actually prepared for a day in steam down at The Engine Shed, as it is loaded with coal and water. 9am 

Object Handling: explore some of our weird and wonderful artefacts from the archives and identify the mystery object. Meet at the Waiting Room at 9:30am. 

Signal Box Experience: visit the Signal Box where you will find regular talks and lectures about the history of signalling and telegraphing, from an expert and passionate group of volunteers. Throughout the day. 

Craft Workshops: logo bunting, board games, jigsaws, clay loco badges, card-making/printing 11:30 - 12:30, or railway map notebook covering - guided workshop. 14:30 - 15:30 

Tours on the hour - 45 mins. Meet at the top of the platform stairs. Largely based around the main station at Cranmore but The Engine Shed is open all day. 

Kids Trail: encourage your little ones to hunt down the quirky details of some of the station's architecture and showstopppers. We're talking urinals ofcourse!!

DMU: see first-hand how different our diesel and steam rolling stock really are! 

Miniature Railway: get the feel of being a giant aboard our Miniature Railway, running throughout the day (unless extreme weather). Staffed by the Mini Rail team, you'll get a quick safety briefing and then, away!! Journey time - 10 minutes. £1 donation requested. 

Vintage Carriage Restoration - see how a Midland Railway vintage carriage built in 1890 has been transformed by our Project Manager Volunteer Steve Erhlicher. Meet at the Museum - 10:30, 11:30, 13:30, 14:30, 15:30
