Groups

We happily welcome groups for Day Rover Tickets,
Dining Trains, Events and use of our Car Park.

With our Day Rover Tickets we can offer the Concession rate for groups of 20+ passengers. If you have a large group please either email us or telephone 01749 880417 (Tuesday-Friday 10.30am-3.30pm, press option 3) to let us know the date you would like to visit, passenger numbers and if you have any wheelchairs in your party. Tickets can be either pre-paid or paid for on the day at the Ticket Office. We can also offer Engine Shed and Workshop and Signal Box tours free of charge but these need to be pre-booked with the ESR Office.

We have a large, free car park that can accommodate several coaches and disabled spaces at the front. If you need flat access to the platform, please take the small lane to the right of our main entrance (signed no entry but please ignore this). Follow this lane to the old station buildings and you will find a couple of disabled parking spaces and a drop off/pick up area with flat access to the platform.

With our Dining Trains we can accommodate groups to a maximum of one carriage (64 seats).

We offer several lovely dining experiences, ranging from a traditional plated Sunday Lunch, to the treat of a Cream Tea and a little more luxury with a Sparkling Afternoon Tea.

All Dining Trains have a fixed ticket price and we are sorry but we are unable to offer a concessionary rate.

If you would like to provisionally book any of our Dining Trains please either email us or telephone 01749 880417 (Tuesday-Friday 10.30am-3.30pm, press option 3) to let us know the date of the service and your passenger numbers. We will require a deposit of £50 to secure the seats and passenger numbers will need to be confirmed at least 1 month before train departure, accompanied by the balance payment. If you book a Sunday Lunch, menu and drinks choices will be needed at this time also.

On Event days with standard ticket prices we can offer the Concession rate for groups of 20+ passengers.
On Yellow Event All Inclusive Days, The Gruffalo and Santa Specials we are unable to offer a concessionary rate.

We happily host photo shoots and art groups as a picturesque location; car, motorcycle and bicycle rallies as a stop off point on their journey; allow ramblers and horse riders to use our car park as a base for their day out in the lovely Somerset air; as well as caravan club groups who park overnight
(all subject to availibilty).

If you would like to use our car park for any similar events please either email us or telephone 01749 880417 (Tuesday-Friday 10.30am-3.30pm, press option 3) to let us know the date you would like to visit, visitor/vehicle numbers and the type of event.

There is a small charge or donation for use of our facilities and if you visit on a day we are in steam, your group is more than welcome to use our toilets, café, ride the train (ticket prices apply) and look around the railway. On days we are not in steam but the ESR Office is open your group is welcome to use our toilets.

Evacuee Experience

Bring history to life with our Evacuee Experience….

As your school party climb the steps into Cramore Station there will be sound effects over the tannoy to set the scene (these include war time speeches, air raid sirens, low flying bombers and some music of the day). You will enter the Ticket Office and our friendly staff will issue the children with traditional tickets, stamped with an old fashioned machine to create a feel of the era. Having moved onto the platform we will enact a billeting scene for the children to experience the feel of being evacuated and arriving in the countryside. They will be issued with an identity card to fill in, told the name of the local people they will be living with and assigned jobs (some are popular, some always create a groan!). Then comes the wonderful steam train ride, with the whistle, smoke and clatter on our approximately 40 minute round trip.

The train will stop at Cranmore West on the return journey and the children will get off to have a tour of the Engine Shed and Workshop, where they can get up close to the engines and see our restoration projects. Having returned to Cranmore Station your group can enjoy lunch on our patio seating/lawn area and there is a small play area for them to burn off some excess energy (if it is raining you can take lunch in the café or on the train). After lunch the children will be given a tour of the Signal Box, where they can pull the levers and learn about signalling and we also have a small museum displaying railway memorabilia. Finally, to help keep the kids entertained we can offer an evacuation trail around the site.

To add to the fun we always recommend that your school group dresses up in period clothes. The children may also like to bring home made gas mask boxes, or a small suitcase. Previously children have made their own diaries where they can write pretend letters home describing their ride to the countryside and the jobs and families they have been assigned.
